April and I have been colleagues for many years and we’ve always had a mutual respect for each other’s work with families who are facing the challenge of raising one or more children with autism. We both have used a relationship based treatment model with our clients and share the same passion for supporting families during one of the most difficult times in their lives. Over the last few years, our relationship has become one more of mentorship. April is now a person I know I can go to with questions about a difficult client situation, a challenging business decision, or even during a personal crisis.

Last year, my almost 80 year old father who has Parkinson’s fell while alone in the middle of the night, broke his shoulder, and laid on a chilly floor for 7 hours before he was discovered by a cable worker. April was one of the only people I called during the days after my dad’s fall. My father was delusional and unresponsive for most hours of the day in the hospital. April supported me as we talked on the phone during this very uncertain time with compassion and a sense of calm that I needed very badly to feel. It goes without saying that I greatly admire April’s work as a professional but I admire her gentle, reassuring soul even more.

April has been a steady beacon of light for me as I’ve navigated many ups and downs. She always offers a guiding hand while never being judgmental. She sets the bar high for me while never failing to do the same for herself.

April has a combination of talents you won’t find anywhere else: frighteningly accurate emotional medical intuit, and autism genius. Who else can read exactly what’s going on inside the child’s head (even when you can’t as a parent), direct you in the right direction, and then teach you to be the parent you always wanted to be…

I heard about April through a mutual patient eight years ago. While busy developing my treatment options for the spectrum children I knew all along April was the missing link for my patients. Trying to find “the path” to healing for my patients I took workshops, and went on a self-discovery and healing journey for my family. I discovered the power of Integrative Medicine for our spectrum children and here you go again! April was the answer for many of my patients with her unique way of reconnecting the neurosensory pathways following my biomedical interventions. Finally, we have the best psychosocial outcomes… Since I started working with April, my work and creative options for our patients changed in a way to be fully integrated to be complete not only for the whole child but also for the WHOLE FAMILY!

This has been such a wonderful experience, I am still catching up on
listening to some of the calls but have gained so much already. Thank you
for doing this for all of us.

I have a small preschool of my own, and have had quite a few children with
autism attend my school over the past 7 years.

I have had to find out ways
of reaching these little ones. Through playful interaction, lots of love and
patience, plenty sensory stimulation, we see the most wonderful results.

This has given me a strong motivation to set up a school for further
learning for children with autism and/developmental delays. It is a big
project and I often feel overwhelmed by the task and unable to carry it
through. I start to wonder why I am even doing this when I could be very
comfortable continuing to run my own little preschool where I am confident
and comfortable. But then I think of these children, and in our area there
is no school to accommodate them – the closest is an hours’ drive away.

So this is why I am trying to gain as much info as possible so that I know
all the options and the different methods of treatment. Wish us luck in this
project, and especially in finding the right teachers, and of course getting
enough funding which is always a big hurdle.

I will be using these calls to share with others in our community, so thank
you for sharing so much with us all.

Absolutely, totally AMAZING week!

I haven’t listened to all of the calls yet, but have found every speaker, each topic inspiring.

I bow to you for your considerable efforts, time and talent in putting this together – and pulling it off (with only minor tech glitches)!!!

April’s support was hugely helpful in bringing to light a heightened clarity and awareness about what it was that was making a decision I had to make, so difficult.  She helped me to ground my energy and access new levels of inner guidance and insight.  Thank you, April!

April is a gift to the world.  She is shifting the Autistic community by bringing her knowledge, wisdom, and compassion to every family she encounters.  April has a unique gift to see beyond the child’s behavior and see the whole child…mind, body, and spirit.  I am so thankful to have her on my “team of experts”.  Her contribution to families around the world are changing the way we see and experience Autism.  April gives us the ability to see past the diagnosis and focus on the greatness each child has to offer the world.  Words will never express my gratitude for all April has done and continues to do to help us on our journey.

I have been working with April for over 7 years now – first as a parent receiving autism services, and more recently as my business consultant.  To illustrate the value of working with April, I need only the example of my last call with her.  When the call began, I was feeling discouraged about my business, unsure of the value of what I was offering my clients, and very unclear of what to talk about.  April asked me about income goals, which was a subject I had been sidestepping.  She led me through a grounding meditation and asked me what I received from that.  I received two numbers that I didn’t understand and seemed contradictory to me.  After more guiding from April, we discovered a new offering I could create for a specific group of parents that fit precisely with the numbers that had come to me in the meditation!  And the best part is that the new offering will work both for clients who just want to dip a toe in and also as a lead-in for those who will choose to invest in a longer term personalized support program! I was unclear and discouraged about my offerings, but now I have a clear way of working with families that will be of significant service to them, and makes me feel great about the service I am providing!
