Success Stories

April developed a customized program based on the specific needs of our daughter and was very involved and accessible through every step. We are so grateful for April’s expertise, professionalism, and personal commitment to our family.

Before working with April our family life was continuously disrupted by our daughter’s behavior problems stemming from her sensory processing issues. Our daughter was extremely sensitive to the feel of lotions, shampoos, etc., was easily agitated by ambient noises, and even inappropriately overreacted to her younger sister breathing in her direction. These issues reduced her desire for physical contact with family members and kept her constantly on edge. Our whole family time was spent either trying to prevent or trying to recover from our daughter’s meltdowns.

As a result of our work together for the last six months, our daughter’s sensory sensitivities are significantly reduced to the point where they are no longer the focus of our family life. She now has awareness of her irritability level and is able to remove herself from upsetting situations. She has an increased sense of calm, which has greatly improved her relationship with family members and peers.

For anyone considering working with April, we highly recommend her non-medicated therapy approach that addresses the foundations of the issues. She developed a customized program based on the specific needs of our daughter and was very involved and accessible through every step. We are so grateful for April’s expertise, professionalism, and personal commitment to our family.

Before working with April I would say that we were a family that was in total chaos. We are now able to communicate much better and our daughter is on her way to becoming an independent adult.

Before working with April I would say that we were a family that was in total chaos. Our daughter who was diagnosed with Asperger’s was defensive all the time and our family dynamics were filled with anxiety and a lot of miscommunication. This felt dysfunctional and we felt lost, confused and very unhappy. In our work together with April we have begun to communicate so much better and the wall of defensiveness our daughter had built around her has begun to crumble. With this defensiveness mostly gone we are now able to communicate much better and we have more positive functional communication as well as some new exciting, enjoyable time together as a family.

We look forward to the next level of working with April to have our family more grounded so that our daughter can grow and continue her journey to becoming an independent adult.

Mom to 25-year-old with Asperger's Syndrome

Before working with April I worried a lot about my daughter’s progress and thought about autism a lot. Her teachings of energy medicine with autism training have helped me focus on my self-care while also helping my daughter. Even though I am in the early stage of learning I am already seeing my daughter improve a lot. She is happy with me, she is more responsive, and she is interested in more things now.

I don’t worry as much about her learning skills and I feel more confident that I can do the right things for her.

April is brilliant at seeing the bigger picture and providing us with a clear framework in which to work. We are constantly impressed by April’s dedication to the children she works with and her continual quest to improve, or find new, ways of helping them.

We had concerns about Sam’s development from very early on, but it was so hard to get any answers. After numerous assessments by many different professionals, the phrase we had heard the most often was “Sam is a puzzle”. With a mixture of learning disability, speech and social communication delays, as well as major movement and motor planning problems, people didn’t know how to classify Sam, or how to go about helping him. Sam’s communication and learning difficulties are magnified by the severe delays in his motor skills and big problems with his organisational skills and motor planning. These impact on every area of his life and they made even RDI difficult. We began to feel more and more that these difficulties needed to be addressed alongside, or even before the autism, and that’s when we turned to April!

April was able to offer us a combination of programmes to address all Sam’s needs. As well as HANDLE, April has interest and experience in other therapies for treating co-ordination and motor planning disorders and she can call on this whenever we hit a stumbling block. It is so refreshing to work with April because she really understands the co-occurring problems that Sam experiences, and she is able to help us run an integrated program within the context of these problems.

Since combining RDI and HANDLE approaches with April in early summer of 2010, we have already seen a number of improvements in Sam’s quality of life and his confidence. He no longer suffers from episodes of dizziness and sickness which seemed to be brought about by a sort of vertigo. He is much more confident and more successful when trying new things with his body such as using playground equipment. He can undress by himself. His speech therapist has remarked on big improvements in concentration and his use of language. He seems more in tune with his surroundings and for the first time ever, he sang along in his school Christmas play. Every day one of us will comment on something new or different that we saw Sam do; everyday we see a tiny little bit of progress in the way in which he interacts with the world.

Sam has difficulties and delays in every area of his life, so it can seem overwhelming when trying to decide how best to help him. April is brilliant at seeing the bigger picture and providing us with a clear framework in which to work. We are constantly impressed by April’s dedication to the children she works with and her continual quest to improve, or find new, ways of helping them. For us, it is such a relief to work with her, because she can actually see the pieces of the puzzle that is Sam and help us to start to put them together.
